Sarah Jessica Parker Bitten Fashions
By now every fashionista has heard about the Sarah Jessica Parker Clothing line "Bitten" and has had a chance to make a judgement about it. Some weren't sure what to think the SJP Bitten clothing line might be about. Cashmere for under $20? Is that really possible? We did like the idea that everything in the Bitten clothing collection would come in sizes 2 - 22.
Sarah Jessica Parker debuted her line on an Oprah show. Her idea was to create an affordable well-made line of American sports ware for women. According to the fashion news site Brandweek "The "Bitten" line will consist of some 500 clothing items and accessories, including knit shirts, wool and cashmere sweaters, dresses, lingerie, jeans, jewelry and footwear. Prices will range from $7.98 to $19.98.". A big undertaking for fashion designer, especially at those prices. The SJP Bitten fashion line is sold exclusively at Steve & Barrys. For those of you who had never heard of Steve & Barrys they are a mall-based store that sells clothing and accessories at $20 or less. Many wondered how SJP's Sex and the City character Carrie would wear this clothing.
Those who happened to see the debut of SJP's fashion line on the Today Show were treated to a very glum somber looking Sarah Jessica Parker. Her usually flowing blond tresses were pasted down flat and dull against her head and she was wearing minimal make up. The first impression of many was "what's wrong with her?" Then there was the somber gray dress she was wearing, out of her own collection.
The argument of many isn't that the clothes aren't fashionable. There are many cute styles being offered such as a high-waist chino, hoodies, jeans, a v-neck dress with polka dots, and a standout houndstooth coat.
The Bitten clothing line is a full line. There are chino and mercer bottoms priced around $20. There are also stretch chinos, jeans and cropped cords. The line of SJP tops includes bell sleeve tops, henley tops, turtlenecks, cotton and stretch shirts.
Also in the SJP Bitten line is a collection of intimates, cotton and microfiber bras and panties, jackets and outerwear and footwear.
One of the criticisms of this fashion line is that it's cheap. And, at $20 or less it is. Another criticism is that the clothing is cut very small. There have been many comments about women we wear size 6 jeans having to go up to a 12. Another who wears a size 12 jean had to go up to a size 16 in the SJP Bitten collection to find one that fit. Another criticism is that the clothing falls apart and doesn't with stand multiple wearings. Well, if something seems to good to be true it usually is. Don't expect a $14 shirt to last. You'd ultimately do much better spending more to buy well made clothing that lasts. Buying inexpensive poorly made clothing, no matter how good it may look initially is literally throwing your money away.
So go out, take a look at the SJP Bitten fashion line. Try it on for yourself. Buy a piece for yourself. See how it works for you. Fashion is a very personal thing and each one of us has to make our own decisions about what we like and why.
